# How to apply a discount
## How to apply a discount to an entire check and to items individually on the check.
\*REMINDER\* You cannot delete a discount once it has been created. \*REMINDER\*

First, we will start on the Order tab of the point of sale. We will start a check by selecting the “+” sign at the bottom right.
From here we will add items to an order like normal.
Once we have menu items on the order, we can start adding discounts to the order.
**WHOLE CHECK DISCOUNT**
For a whole check discount, we will select the yellow “Discount” button at the bottom right.
This will bring up the available discounts and the “Create New Discount” button. We will select “Test Discount” for 10% in this example.
Now we can see that there is a 10% discount on the order.
To remove the discount, we will select the yellow “Discount” button again. We can see the discount we applied now has a red minus button on it. If we select this, it will remove this order discount from the order itself.
After selecting the minus sign on the discount, we can now see the discount is removed and we have “No discounts applied yet”.
Now we can see the discount is removed from the entire order.
**PER ITEM DISCOUNT**
To apply a discount to an individual item on an order, we will start by selecting the item we wish to apply a discount to.
After selecting an item from the left of the menu, we can see that there is an “Item Discount” button at the bottom right of the new pop-up. Selecting this will bring up another pop-up over this.
From here we can see all the current discounts and the “Create New Discount” button. We will select “Test Discount” in this example.
After you select the discount, it will bring us back to the previous pop-up. From there we can finish the discount by select “Update Item” at the bottom right.
We can now see there is a 10% discount ont he burger.
To remove the discount, we can select the item with a discount on it.
From here, we can select “Item Discounts” at the bottom right to show the discount pop-up again.
We can see the discount we previously selected now has a minus sign next to it. We will select the minus sign to start removing the discount. We will then select the “X” at the top left to close the pop-up.
From here, we will select “Update Item” to finish removing this discount from the menu item.
Now we can see the discount is removed from the item.
