How to Place an Order for Quick Service and Food Trucks

Learn how to quickly place an order on the Table Needs POS System for quick service restaurants and food trucks.

Placing an order on the Table Needs quick service and food truck POS is built for speed. You'll create the order, add items, and get through the transaction in just a few taps. Watch the walkthrough below, then follow the step-by-step guide underneath.

Start a New Order

  1. When you log in to the POS, you'll land on the main screen. Tap the Order button at the top to get started.
  2. A new order prompt will appear where you can enter the customer's name and phone number.
  3. Choose the dining method: In House, Pickup, or Delivery.
  4. If the customer wants to order ahead, tap Schedule to set a later time.
  5. Add any custom instructions for the order, then tap Create.

Find and Add Menu Items

  1. Your menu will open up. There are three ways to find what you need:
    • All: scroll through everything at once.
    • Categories: tap a category to narrow it down.
    • Search: type in what you're looking for.
  2. Tap the menu item to open it up. At the top you'll see the standard default options, and below that are all the available modifications.
  3. Make any changes the customer wants: swap the default, choose extras, adjust options. These are fully customizable to your restaurant.
  4. Add special instructions if needed (for example, a peanut allergy the kitchen should know about).
  5. Tap Add to Order.
  6. Repeat for each item. Your order summary builds on the side of the screen as you go.

Edit an Item Already on the Order

  1. If the customer changes their mind or wants to add something to an item, just tap it in the order summary on the side. This opens the item back up so you can make changes.

Send to Kitchen and Complete the Transaction

  1. When the order is ready, you have two options:
    • Send to Kitchen: sends the order but keeps the screen open in case the customer wants to add more.
    • Transaction: sends the order and moves straight to payment.
  2. Choose the payment method: Cash or Card.
  3. For cash, enter the amount tendered and tap Take Cash. The screen will show the change due.
  4. Choose your receipt option: print, email, or no receipt. These options are customizable to your restaurant's setup.

Once the transaction is complete, a fresh order screen pops up automatically, ready for the next customer.
