How to Split Checks
Learn how to split checks in the Table Needs Point of Sale System
A table of two wants to pay separately. That's no problem. Here's how to move items onto their own checks in Table Needs, including the shared item they split between them. This takes about a minute at the table.
Start From the Order Summary Screen
- Open the order you want to split. On the left side of the screen you'll see everything on the ticket — in this example, one shared item, two items on Seat 1, and two items on Seat 2.
Open Manage Checks
- Tap the toggle at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Split Checks. This opens your Manage Checks area.
Add a Second Check
- Tap Add Check. You'll now have Check 1 and Check 2, with everything still sitting on Check 1.
Move Items to the Right Check
- Select Seat 2.
- Drag Seat 2's items over to Check 2.
Seat 2's items are now on their own check, and Seat 1's items stay on Check 1.
Split the Shared Item
- Find the shared item still sitting on the ticket — in this example, a cheddar everything bagel.
- Toggle the item, then tap Split Item.
- Add it to Seat 1 and Seat 2. Table Needs divides it automatically, so half lands on each check.
Check 1 now shows half the cheddar everything bagel plus Seat 1's two items, and Check 2 shows the other half plus Seat 2's two items.
You're Done!
- Tap Done to head back to the order summary screen.
You'll see Check 1 and Check 2 on the left, reflecting the split. Each guest can now pay their own check.
Tips
- Split the shared items last. Move the seat items first and the shared ones are easier to see.
- You can add more than two checks. Tap Add Check once for every guest who wants to pay on their own.
- Double-check both checks before you take payment so nobody pays for someone else's coffee.
